The Satipatthāna Sutta, an important and practical discourse, has influenced most of the approaches to mindfulness and insight meditation that we practice today.
This two part series will introduce practices and teachings that are found in the Satipatthāna Sutta, with a focus on mindfulness of the body in the first course and mindfulness of mind in the second course. Our core text will be Perspectives on Satipatthana, by Bhikkhu Analayo, which emphasizes interpretations drawn from the early discourses of the Buddha. Wisdom Wide and Deep, by Shaila Catherine, will serve as our secondary text, which introduces alternative ways of examining the nature of matter and mind.
Each course includes recorded lectures, reading assignments, sutta study, guided meditations, discussion forums, and optional audio conferences with Shaila Catherine. These courses may be taken individually, and both are suitable for all levels of experience. Everyone is welcome.
